WASPI Women

Started by: MrsC (90)

Don't really understand why women should be compensated for becoming equal to men .
They've had 16 years to address this . Ignorance is no excuse .
No one's losing out , we just have to work the same years as men to get it .
If anything it's men that were discriminated against when women could retire at 60 .
Too many people want a free buck these days .

Most of the issue was some women did not get any notification or short term notification about the rise in pension age. Men's pensions also only jumped by one year from 65 to 66 then now 67 but women's pension age jumped from 60 to 65 or even straight to 66 and could not retire when they expected to or where left with no job or income My wife's retirement jumped from 60 straight to 66 so she lost 6 years pension which she could have been due to .If they had raised the pension age in increments of 1 year then it would not have impacted for a lot of women.Has a woman Mrs C I am surprised that you have no sympathy for your fellow women . I think you should read more about the plight of WASPI women then you will have a different view about it all

I agree it should have been done in one year implements .
Personally I should have got my pension this year but now have to wait another 12 months until I'm 66 just like lots of others including men .
Do we have a claim for compensation too ?

Different for you it is only 1 year and you know what is happening but a lot of women lost out on 6 years pension like my wife who suddenly had their pension date moved

You should be able to take your pension at any time after your 35 years of contributions are up. That's fair!

Hang on and or owd on a minute !!!!

I thought that starting circa 2005 it did start coming in, in one year increments and at the same time men could retire early by claiming 'Pension Credit' starting at 61 and increasing every year by a year to 65 when then it became the universal retirement age, I my self have been shafted up to the age of 66, but going back about thirty years or so ago the talk was that the retirement age for men would go down to 60 equalising it to women, and Whupsie and Handsomeminer I don't think that Labour are against the retirement age shenanigan's which have gone on.

Pension credit if eligible.. Opticians. My missus lost out on at least £45000 and if they pay out £10000 they have gained a savings of billions over the years . One idiot is advocating a pay out of between £1000 and £2500

I agree entirely with MrsC's opening post.

PeterP.
Lets be fair here. Men have lost the same, possibly more? And I don't mean just in monetary terms. They had to work until 65 years of age, were a woman only had to work until 60 years of age.
I'm also a victim of the pension raising age but if women want equal rights, they have got them!

You should be, but you can't!
I'm assuming you are referring to the state pension?

Women born in the fifties most likely stayed at home bringing up children until later in life. They were expecting their pension at 60, most of them not eligible for a full pension unlike their husbands. The campaign is about the DWP not communicating with these women about the changes in time for them to make alternative arrangements for later life. Although men had to wait till 65 for their state pension they still got free prescriptions, eye tests and bus passes at 60.
For Tonker, 35 years only applies if you weren't contracted out of serps.

Yes. Like I said, you should be.
How about paying contributions as long as you're working, then only getting pension when you retire?
Of course, you can withhold taking your pension at pension age, then you get a 10.4% per year increase in payment when you do actually take it.
It all depends how you feel, in yourself, laaaaike, at that age. Some even keep working and still take their pension.

I was as fit as a butcher's dog before I had that accident in November. I've not been the same since. I've reet gone downhill. It follows that I'm taking my pension in May, when I'm 66, as you never know when your number might come up !

Angelwood

The Tories stopped men having a free bus pass at 60 when they came to power in 2010 I will have to wait till I am 66 for my free bus pass

Tommy as did I, I retired a little early, but from starting work I expected to retire at 60. Luckily, I planned ahead and got myself a good occupational pension.

I know what she means. By the first comment made - but I guarantee that Mrs C is definitely NOT Mick. It's too intelligent and too well written for it to be him.
